What do you think of when you hear the word, "surrounded?"
I think of how adult elephants circle around a baby elephant in order to protect it when danger approaches. I first learned of this behavior in a childrens book long ago.
This example speaks to the way God surrounds us.
How many times have we felt that we were all alone and unprotected, like a helpless baby elephant in a jungle filled with lions? On the flipside, we may have been so naive that we were not even aware of any impending danger at all as we stood in solitude in an empty field of life, making ourselves an easy target for demise.
Either of these scenarios comes into greater focus as we look for God in the picture:
As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
the Lord surrounds his people
now and forever.---Psalm 125:2
Whether we are aware of the danger or not, what lion can attack us if God is standing in between?
